New Year, New Adventures
Hello there!
It’s hard to believe that we’re two weeks into 2023 already! After having some big successes in 2022, it’s tempting to create a long list of things I’d like to accomplish this year. Experience has taught me that it’s not the best method for me, though. I usually want to do more than I actually can, and I often end a year with a discouraging amount of my checklist incomplete.
So, what to do instead?
Focus on what keeps me moving forward. Sometimes, it’s just smaller goals, and other times, it’s just the commitment to continue making progress on what I’m currently working on.
For smaller goals, there are a few anthologies and online magazines looking for submissions throughout the year that I’m eyeing up. I’ve already submitted a short story to one this year, and I’m starting to brainstorm other ideas for the others.
For current projects, I’m hoping to complete a first draft of my two WIPs this year. One is a time travel novel that I think will ultimately become a trilogy. I have a lot of ideas for it—some of which appear in weekly #flashfictionmagic pieces on Instagram—and I’m looking forward to playing with it. (By the way, if you haven’t ever checked out #flashfictionmagic, it’s the most encouraging, zany, fun community of writers. Stories come out on Fridays, so be sure to look up the hashtag! You won’t be disappointed!)
The other is nonfiction and is very different than anything I’ve written before. Different enough that I’m not sure how best to describe it aside from that it follows the spiritual journey that I went on a few years ago as I dealt with infertility and learning what death to self looks like. It’s not something that I ever intended on writing, but I feel like God wants me to, so I am. It’s more difficult to write, but I would be delighted to have at least one draft down this year.
Oh, and of course stick with this monthly newsletter! It’s a fun way to connect with you!
Here’s to the start of the new year and all the fun adventures that we’ll have on the way! Until next time!
